Patient Care Technician
This course prepares students to function as Patient Care Technicians (PCTs) in the hospital setting by building on foundational nurse aide skills and introducing acute care practices. Students will learn to provide safe, compassionate patient care while working under the supervision of licensed nursing staff.
Instruction focuses on vital signs monitoring, blood glucose testing, infection control, patient safety, and assisting with activities of daily living. Additional topics include dietary awareness, intake and output measurement, and safe observations of medical devices such as IV lines, feeding tubes, drains, telemetry equipment, and urinary devices. Emphasis is placed on recognizing changes in patient condition and promptly reporting abnormal findings.
Upon completion, students will be prepared to support healthcare teams in delivering quality care in fast-paced hospital environments.
